Incognito라는 밴드는 Jamiroquai를 듣다가 비슷한 느낌의 음악이 더 없나 찾아보다가 발견한 밴드다. 이런 종류의 음악을 애시드 재즈라고 하는 것 같은데, 이 밴드가 Jamiroquai보다 더 R&B 또는 흑인음악적인 색채가 강하다. 애시드 재즈는 1990년대 초반 영국에서 많이 흥했는데 (내가 좋아하는 음악들이 거의 그렇다. 애시드 재즈나 트립합이나 슈게이징이나..) 이 앨범은 2022년 기준에서 상당히 최근인 2014년에 발매되었다. 그럼에도 90년대 초반 발매된 Tribes, Vibes and Scribes나 Positivity랑 믹싱이나 음악색에 있어서 크게 바뀐 게 없어서 좋다.

찾아보니 Incognito라는 밴드 자체는 1979년에 결성되었다고 하고, 첫 앨범부터 재즈 펑크를 시도했다고 한다. 가장 최근 발매된 앨범은 2016년에 발매된 앨범이다. 비슷한 밴드인 자미로콰이는 3집 이후부터 방향성이 상당히 바뀌었었다. 나는 개인적으로 90년대 초반의 애시드 재즈 분위기를 많이 좋아해서 한 우물만 파는 이 밴드가 훨씬 맘에 든다.

이 밴드의 노래 90%가 그렇긴 하지만 그루브한 베이스 라인과 긍정적인 가사가 특징적이고 좋다. 바다 산책을 하다가 우연히 스트리밍에 섞여 나와서 듣게 되었던 노래인데 그 때 날씨와 기분과 참 어울리는 노래였다.
